The MBE of the Voluntary Sector awarded to Lee NCI
KAVS Award
National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), Lee-on-the-Solent Station has been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Services (KAVS).
The NCI Station at Lee-on-the-Solent is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service on the Kings birthday (14th November 2024).
The award recognises the Coastwatch staff at Lee NCI who volunteer their time to give cover 365 days of the year including Christmas Day. The NCI are dedicated to the protection and preservation of life at sea through being the ‘eyes and ears’ of His Majesties Coastguard. The NCI have celebrated their 30th Anniversary this year that followed the closure of Coastguard stations around the country.
Lee NCI have been recognised for their close relationship with the Lee community and their care of duty to the safety of water users along the Lee Shoreline. Over the past years, the Station has added Water Safety to their mandate and have been delivering Water Safety advice to local schools.
The KAVS is an MBE for voluntary services where Lee NCI will now be known as Lee-on-the-Solent NCI KAVS. We are most grateful to Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage for nominating our KAVS application and to Geoff Holt of the Wetwheels Foundation for being our sponsor. Our thanks to GAFIRS lifeboat and local councillors for writing letters of support.
